Q. Can CJI represent me?
A. CJI represents indigent clients who are appointed by the Boston Municipal Court, Roxbury Division (adults) and Dorchester Division (juveniles).
Q. What kinds of cases does CJI take?
A. Our legal practice handles criminal charges ranging from misdemeanors to most felonies, and legal representation is provided from arrest to disposition. We also handle some collateral matters, including school disciplinary proceedings. Clients are appointed by the Boston Municipal Court, Roxbury Division (adults) and Dorchester Division (juveniles).
Q. Does CJI take on Superior Court Cases?
A. Clients represented by CJI face criminal charges originating out of local district courts in Massachusetts. Specifically, we handle cases that are appointed by the Boston Municipal Court, Roxbury Division (adults) and Dorchester Division (juveniles).
Q. Does CJI take out-of-state cases?
A. CJI provides legal representation for cases in local district courts in the State of Massachusetts. More specifically, the majority of the cases we handle are in Suffolk County.
Q. Who can I contact to find legal assistance?
A. If you require legal assistance, contact your local Bar Association for referrals to attorneys or visit the American Bar Association’s information site. In Massachusetts, referral sources include the Massachusetts Bar Association and the Boston Bar Association.

Q. Can exchange/international students register for classes at CJI?
A. Students must be enrolled at Harvard Law School in order to register for courses offered by CJI. (Certain restrictions may apply.) If you have earned a law degree from another school or in another country, you should contact the admissions office at gpquery@law.harvard.edu to inquire about graduate programs.
Q. Does CJI offer internships for high school students interested in learning about the law or law school?
A. CJI does not offer such internships. If you are interested in attending law school, you should contact the admissions office at jdadmiss@law.harvard.edu to inquire about requirements for admission.
