On the most superficial level, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.vox.com\/2015\/7\/14\/8966897\/obama-mass-incarceration-tweets\" target=\"_blank\">$80 billion<\/a> is how much it costs to keep more than 2.4 million people in our jails and prisons. <span id=\"more-110776\"><\/span>Then there are the costs to those incarcerated themselves, who often find they\u2019re\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/newjimcrow.com\/about\" target=\"_blank\">denied basic civil rights<\/a> and struggle\u00a0to find\u00a0employment, education, and housing for years to come after their release.<\/p>\n<p>But that\u2019s really only the beginning, according to a\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/whopaysreport.org\/\" target=\"_blank\">groundbreaking new report<\/a> from the <a href=\"http:\/\/ellabakercenter.org\/\" target=\"_blank\">Ella Baker Center for Human Rights<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/forwardtogether.org\/\" target=\"_blank\">Forward Together<\/a>, and <a href=\"http:\/\/rad.cat\/\" target=\"_blank\">Research Action Design<\/a>.
