Good news on Vini and Dennis! Please see below for the very exciting announcement from SIM, Student Immigrant Movement:
SIMmers, Friends, and Allies,
It is with immense pride and joy that I announce that our Education Not Deportation campaign has been successful, and Vinicius Quirino and Denis Lemos are staying here in the US where they belong!
Thanks to all your tireless work and dedication, we reached thousands of people, signed letters, filled petitions, got endorsements and statements of support, and truly showed that our community cares about Vini and Denis.
A community that stands together, stays together.
On Friday morning, Denis got his call and found out he was being granted prosecutorial discretion. But we weren’t done just yet — Vini was still waiting for his. This morning, we held a rally at City Hall Plaza to let ICE know that just letting Denis go wasn’t enough, and that we weren’t letting them off the hook until Vini was safe. And then Vini got his call!
Who thought that a group of students could get together and get ICE to cancel their own deportation proceedings, huh?
Our leaders had the imagination to dream of a better world — and the courage to turn that imagination into a reality. All of you who have committed your energy and your passion to this campaign, in big and small ways, have proved once more what we know to be true: that change is in your hands, if you choose to take it.
But there are many, many out there who still face the hard reality of detention and deportation.
SIM isn’t done yet; we’re never done. And so we ask that you keep supporting our efforts to fight for the rights of undocumented youth.
Can you donate 25$ now, so we can carry on and win new victories for our community?
Your support is what keeps the dream alive.
In solidarity,
Conrado Santos
