Since March 2009, Harvard Law School student teams have worked on legislation and advocacy related to food policy in the Mississippi Delta region. Students have worked on a range of projects which focus on two primary goals: (1) improving access to healthy foods for Mississippi residents and (2) spurring economic growth for small farmers and local food producers.
The Food Policy Team is now working with the Mississippi Farm to School Network for the third straight year to try to make farm to school a reality across Mississippi. This year, the team will be looking at barriers preventing potentially interested farmers from selling to schools and whether tax incentive legislation can be used as a way to incentivize farm to school policy in the state.
