Refer a Dispute

Mediation is a free service at HMP. Here’s how to access it:

  1. Review and complete this form, which lists the information HMP will need about the dispute.
  2. Once you’ve completed the form, contact HMP’s Outreach and Case Coordinator, Ana Riella, via e-mail at hmpintake@law.harvard.edu or phone at 617-495-1854.

Important notes:

HMP mediators DO NOT PROVIDE LEGAL ADVICE, nor do they decide how to resolve the dispute. Instead, HMP mediators use the mediation session to assist the parties in identifying mutually-acceptable solutions to resolve the dispute.

To mediate a dispute with HMP, everyone involved must agree to participate. To mediate effectively, the mediation must include everyone necessary to make decisions about resolving the dispute. Provided that all those parties agree to try mediation, the Outreach and Case Coordinator will set up a mediation session with two trained mediators from HMP.

HMP is currently mediating using videoconferencing (Zoom) and/or telephone.
